A Thanksgiving Message from Father Gregory
Thanksgiving is a great American tradition. It brings families together without the hype of gift-giving, it celebrates our collective history as a nation, and it centers on the theme of gratitude for the blessings we have received. For us in the Saint Louis area, however, this year's Thanksgiving has the added significance of all the turmoil and soul-searching that has surrounded the events in Ferguson over these past months. We have posted a statement from Archbishop Carlson regarding these events. May we see in that so-familiar image of the Pilgrims' feast with their Indian neighbors, a call to greater harmony and mutual respect for all the people of our region. May we pray for peace, for greater justice and opportunity for all our citizens, that our Thanksgiving next year may be a celebration of immense gratitude and promise.
